CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Coming off his winning performance at the 2016 Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational junior Vincent Blanchette was named the Big South Conference’s men’s Golfer of The Week for the last week of the regular season.
The Saint Jean, Quebec, Canada native claimed the first collegiate tournament of his career this past week with the win at the Invitational as he absolutely dominated the field at the 6,648 yard, par-72, Country Club of Spartanburg in Spartanburg, S.C. . Blanchette carded rounds of 68 (-4), a sensational 65 (-7), and a 69 (-3) to set to set the new Invitational 54-hole scoring record with a total score of 202, -14 under-par to claim the medalist honors.
Blanchette led the tournament in birdies made as he holed 18 over his three-rounds of play combined with eagles on two separate occasions at the Invitational. He also led the field in Par-4 scoring average shooting a scintillating average of 3.73, -8 under-par.
To top it all off his performance sparked Gardner-Webb to their first team victory of the 2015-16 Season as the Runnin’ Bulldogs finished atop the team leaderboard at the Invitational with rounds of 283, 281, and 283 to finish the event with a score of 847, -17 under-par.
With the Big South Men’s Golf Championship looming in the coming days, April 18-20, Gardner-Webb will look to continue to play at a very high level for this big tournament.
